Competition Commission of India invites applications for its monthly internship programme.

About the Competition Commission of India Internship Programme

The Competition Commission of India conducts its internship programme as part of its advocacy and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of competition law in India. The programme is designed to familiarise students with the functioning of India’s market regulator and the implementation of the Competition Act, 2002.

The internship provides an opportunity to gain exposure to regulatory processes, competition law enforcement mechanisms, and policy-level issues affecting markets and businesses in India. Students selected under the programme engage with institutional functioning and research-based assignments relating to competition regulation.

The programme attracts applicants from leading academic institutions across India and is conducted at the Commission’s premises in New Delhi.

Mode of Internship

The internship is conducted in offline mode at the office of the Competition Commission of India in New Delhi.

Interns are required to attend the internship full time and follow the working hours of the Commission during the internship period.

Duration

The internship is normally for a period of one month, commencing on the first working day of the month.

Applicants seeking internships for two or three months may also apply with a recommendation from their university or institution for the extended duration.

Stipend

Interns receive an honorarium of ₹15,000 per month during the internship period.

Certificates are issued upon successful completion of the internship.

Eligibility Criteria

The internship programme is open only to Indian nationals studying at recognised institutions or universities with exposure to competition law.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Students in the second or third year of a three-year LL.B. programme
  • Students in the fourth or final year of a five-year integrated law programme who have completed their third year examinations
  • Students pursuing LL.M. programmes

Students who already have confirmed placement offers are not eligible to apply for the internship.

Nature of Work

Interns participate in an induction programme on provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 at the beginning of the internship.

During the internship period, interns may assist with research-based assignments related to competition law, regulatory analysis, and institutional functions of the Commission. Interns are also provided access to office infrastructure, including workspace, intercom facilities, computer systems, and library resources available within the Commission.

The outcome of any study undertaken during the internship remains the intellectual property of the Commission and cannot be used without prior approval.

Important Conditions

Interns are required to maintain confidentiality regarding information and materials accessed during the internship.

The internship may be discontinued at any stage without payment of honorarium if performance is found unsatisfactory or if the intern remains absent without authorisation.

Interns must submit an undertaking confirming that they do not hold any placement offer and that they will maintain confidentiality during the internship period.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted in the prescribed format available on the official website of the Competition Commission of India:

Applications must include a recommendation from the competent authority of the applicant’s academic institution. Applications submitted without institutional recommendation are not considered.

Applicants are also required to submit a Statement of Purpose of approximately 200 words describing the topic and objectives of the proposed study during the internship.

Applications must be submitted by the first day of the month preceding the intended internship month. For example, applications for June internships must be submitted by 1 May.
