About Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol serves as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, bringing with him a vast wealth of experience from across the Indian judicial landscape. Before his elevation to the Supreme Court on February 6, 2023, he served as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.

His judicial career is marked by tenure as the Acting Chief Justice and Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, as well as serving as the Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh. Known for his commitment to reducing case pendency and his humanitarian approach to justice, Justice Karol has also served as the Chancellor of prominent legal institutions like the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU).

About the Judicial Internship

The office of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol is currently inviting applications for its Judicial Internship program. This role offers law students a rare opportunity to assist in the research and analysis of complex legal issues pending before the Supreme Court. Interns are expected to perform high-level legal research, prepare case summaries, and assist the law clerks in drafting research memos.

The internship provides a front-row seat to the development of Indian jurisprudence. Learning outcomes include a refined understanding of the Special Leave Petition (SLP) process, exposure to constitutional interpretation, and the opportunity to observe arguments by the nation’s leading Senior Advocates.

Location and Mode

Mode: Offline (In-person)

Location: Supreme Court of India / Residential Office, New Delhi.

This is a physical Judicial Internship. Interns are required to be present in New Delhi to attend court proceedings and work closely with the judicial clerks. The hands-on nature of the work—navigating the Supreme Court library and attending live hearings—is essential for the full internship experience.


Eligibility & Requirements

To maintain the high standards of research required at the Supreme Court, the following eligibility criteria apply:

  • 5-Year LL.B. Program: Students currently in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th year.
  • 3-Year LL.B. Program: Students currently in their 2nd or 3rd year.
  • Skills: Proficiency in legal research databases (SCC Online, Manupatra, etc.) and strong writing skills are highly preferred.
  • Conduct: Interns are expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professional decorum.
